Melrose Street near La Jolla Street

Melrose, both ways, between Orangethorpe and La Jolla. There is an elementary school, and nearly the entire block is a 25 mph school zone. Even during non-school hours, the speed limit is still only 30. There will normally be a marked cruiser or Tahoe parked on the Orangethorpe side of the school’s lot (behind a fence), and a motorcycle cop parked on the La Jolla side of the school’s lot (behind the building). The motor officer always uses laser, the others use radar. All it takes is one kid on the sidewalk, and the speed limit becomes 25. Peak times are between 7:30 and 8:00 am, and 2:00 to 2:30 pm. They laser me when I’m only going 24, so I’m sure if you’re going 26, they’ll light you up. As an added "bonus," the Tahoe also likes to sit in a parking lot on on the east side of Melrose just south of La Jolla and watch the La Jolla/Melrose intersection for crossing guard violations. Cha-ching!
