Menchville Road near nicewood Drive

Menchville Road was 35mph forever when it was a barely passable, ditched lined road. A few years ago, they widened the road, put in pedestrian sidewalks and for some reason, lowered the speed limit to 25mph. If you turn onto Menchville Road from Warwick Blvd., you will be dutifully notified via a single sign of the posted speed limit just as you enter Menchville Road. There will not be another sign notifying drivers of the 25mph speed limit for the remainder of the speed limit restricted area. If you are not aware of the newer speed limit and turn onto Menchville Road from Allison or another side street, there are no signs to alert drivers of the speed limit in that area. There is often a police officer sitting in the Presbyterian Church parking lot with his radar gun pointed toward Allison to catch anyone not aware of the 25 mph limit in that stretch. Just before the church, it increases to 35mph but it’s too late. The officer will have you on the radar from as far as Allison. The particular officer that is generally in that area is not very nice and unyielding. I’ve heard a lot of residents in the area complain about this particular speed trap and the officer conducting them. It makes no sense why they did that to Menchville Road, the speed limit drop, but it’s there. Be careful!
