I was coming back from my dad’s funeral a week ago Sunday (March 22) when I got stopped for speeding in the town of Milford. I was going the speed limit until I encountered an unmarked police car in the fast lane going substantially less than the posted speed limit of 65 and riding side by side with a pack of cars. Once the other cars cleared out, I sped up to get around the guy in the fast lane. I immediately slowed back down to 65. It turned out the guy who was impeding traffic was a Milford cop in an unmarked car and I got a ticket for going 80 in a 65. Anyway, the form they give you to mail in is very confusing and when I called to ask questions, the lady at the municipal court would only say “Sir, just read the form”. I was persistent and she finally hung up on me. I called again the next day. Same drill. So I filled out the paperwork as best I could and sent them a cashier’s check for $245 (the amount of the fine plus $50). The form was very confusing but this is the amount I thought they were asking for to take drivers education – I just completed Drivers Education yesterday. Anyway, they sent all the paperwork back to me, including the check, with no instructions on what I needed to do next. I called again yesterday and the lady was again very uncooperative. She told me that since I had already signed up for drivers education, that I could not take it. I told her I would contact an attorney and she still would not tell me what I was supposed to do next. I haven’t had a ticket in 30 years. I am retired and on a fixed income. So, I can’t afford much. My wife is disabled and I am her sole care giver. So, I don’t want to make trips if I don’t have to. But, I’m worried about what they are up to in Milford since they will not tell me what they want. The traffic citation says I have until April 6th to respond. Contacted a lawyer today.
