This is a very small town with a state highway as its Main Street. The "in-town" speed limit is actually 10 mph higher than that of the neighboring towns because they are aware that many drivers are just passin' through and try to keep it moving. Too many local folks have been hit and killed for the local cops to have much sympathy for speeders, though. Stick to the speed limit and you'll be fine. I've driven in Charlemont since before Berkshire East came into existence and I am a leadfoot. I've never been stopped, because I care about the safety of the locals. Don't want a ticket?
