Near Exit 59

Tifton, GeorgiaSep 06, 20112 Comments

Officers sit on the overpass bridge (Southwell Rd) and clock people driving on I-75 from above.
There are 2 officers. The one clocking the north bound lane will be parked in the right hand lane of Southwell Rd on the north bound side of I-75 and vice versa for the southbound lane.
You do not know there in an officer clocking your side of the I-75 until after you go under the overpass and look in your rearview mirror.
You will see him sitting in his car tagging you from behind.
The next exit up state troopers sit on the exit ramp waiting. You do not see them until after you pass also.

Comments:
Exit 59 maintains at least 1-2 law enforcement personnel per day until approx. 6:00 p.m. They are primarily sheriff dept. with an occasional state policeman sitting on the bridge. The objective of every law enforcement officer should be to "SERVE & PROTECT". On exit 59, when a "speeder" has been identified, the officer makes an immediate "U" turn on the bridge, irregardless of oncoming traffic, then initiates his warning devices(usually lights only), he then proceeds to speed down the ramp at a totally unsafe, (in excess of 100 mph), exits onto the interstate crossing lanes without any regard for oncoming traffic, and chasing the speeder down at least 2-3 exits before apprehension. In an article written approx. 2 yrs. ago in the Tifton Gazette, a reporter rode with the sheriff, and the writer explained how frightening the "chase" was, and the fact that the officer commented "where else can you do 100 mph by the end of the ramp and not get into trouble. We will kill someone eventually from reckless law enforcement trying to "earn" for their County... the use of one Radar car & up to 5 chase cars on the ramp is also something to be reviewed. If they wish to continue the cars should all be repainted from "TO SERVE & PROTECT" to "TO SERVE & COLLECT"

The officer running the laser or radar is the one who must swear to you speed, not the writer unless it is the one and the same. The laser operator must also appear in court to give testimony as to your description and swear to your speed.
