Near State Highway 125 (All through town)

Jackson, South CarolinaAug 12, 20083 Comments

4 Lane Highway through very small town with a 45, then 35 speed limit – speed limit into town is 55. Heavily patrolled at all times, in either direction. As a reference point, this town is adjacent to the Savannah River Site Nuclear Plant.

Comments:
Jackson, SC is not on the Augusta, GA side. If it were, it would not be in SC. Do not exceed the posted speed limits in this town.

In your statement you state that Jackson is heavily patrolled. What a joke. Jackson has a total of four police officers. There is seldom more than one on duty at a time. The highway 125 runs through the town and like other highways than runs through towns, residential and business areas, it thereby causes the speed limit to drop from 55 to 45. It is also well posted before entering the town limits as well as when entering. The only place that the speed limit drops to 35 is in front of a school, during school zone hours. To call this a speed trap is a joke. Also keep in mind that this hwy 125 runs through several small towns from North Augusta to the east coast. In several small towns the speed limit drops to 35. It never raises to 65 or 70 as most highways do. Furthermore, after speaking with three of the officers in Jackson, they don't write tickets unless it is over ten miles over the limit. Now you tell me is this really a speed trap or just where the limit is dropped for the entering of a township, as anywhere else in SC. Anyone that thinks it is a speedtrap should go back and reread your SC drivers handbook.

I've been a town coucilmember 15 yrs and I don't know wher the 35 mph section is. We do have a short 30 mph in the school zone with flashing caution lights when in effect. I guess our 4 man PD and County Sheriff Dept. and HP really don't heavily patrol too often
