New Hope Street near E Fornance Street

Norristown, PennsylvaniaAug 02, 20053 Comments

No cop car seen, just looks like a fender bender from a distance. Then a cop walks into street points to a person & has them pull over right before the intersection of New Hope & E Fornance Streets.
Trap set up in early moning while people are going to work. Set up on a road that (as far as I have seen in 5 years of living there) has not had 1 regular police car stop a motorist. Speed is 25 but is not a small road so it is not followed. Average speed on that road is 30-40 mph.

Ticketed 1/6/10. Apparently the township is still drawing on this resource in hard economic times. Cop was in a car on a side street that I saw while passing. I'm not sure of the speed measuring device, as I saw none. Pulled me over with flashing lights across the street from the local technical high school. Claimed that they had set up the trap due to neighborhood complaints and that he, therefore, couldn't let me off with a warning, but could cite me for "failure to obey road signs", rather than speeding, which would result in no points on my license, and "the cheapest ticket in PA". Small comfort.

New Hope St might have a speed trap but the biggest money Maker for Norristown Cops and the State Police is the one on Airy St. It's a 25 mph zone and they get you good because it's almost impossible to do 25 and being your leaving Norristown at selma st most people tend to speed up a little and thats when your busted. Another Money Maker is at Haws ave and Marshall St. Thats usually where they get all the Illegals without a license So There's two more spots that should be noted in the Boro of Norristown

New Hope St. Near East Fornance St: I clicked on "Yes, this is a speed trap", and it added my score to the "No" side. Be advised, this IS a speed trap, no doubt about it. I haven't been caught in it, but that's only because I was warned about it by a friend.
