north end of Topsail Beach

Topsail Beach, North CarolinaMar 30, 20111 Comments

Upon entering the Town of Topsail Beach from Surf City, the speed limit is 45. After a couple of miles it drops to 35 very briefly then to 25 for a very short distance. Young officers jealously guard those speed zones and readily will welcome you to the town with a ticket. My advice-stay out of Topsail Beach if you can avoid it. Do your shopping in Surf City instead.

Comments:
Speeding tickets are a revenue source for the town of Topsail Beach especially during tourist season. This spot in particular usually has an officer waiting for people who can't get to 25 in a "reasonable time" - which is before you cross Haywood Avenue. Also, beware that while heading down to Topsail Beach, once you pass into "town limits", a Topsail Beach officer, more often than not, sits in a dirt lot at the West side of the road. Normally they're watching traffic coming from the south end of the island, but sometimes they'll be watching the incoming traffic. Mind you it turns from 35 to 45 once you cross the Surf City/Topsail Beach town limit, but don't put it past them to pull you over if you're doing 46 before you hit the 45 MPH zone. Again, they rely on tickets for revenue. Don't give them an opportunity to collect.
