Northbound I35E at Mile Marker 382

Milford, TexasApr 06, 20133 Comments

I had a similar experience to one of the other drivers on April 4, 2013. I was going 65 mph (not speeding) and passed a police vehicle on the shoulder that had apparently pulled over a speeder. He came roaring after me, pulled me over, and gave me a ticket for "failure to change lanes when approaching an emergency vehicle." He said if I couldn’t change lanes, then the law says I would have to slow down to 20 mph. It’s one thing if the emergency vehicle is moving, but it was stopped on a wide shoulder, while saying I must suddenly slow down that much on an interstate could provoke a serious accident. Seemed obvious that the cop was just out to shake down motorists.

Comments:
That is the law. Change lanes or if you cannot, slow down to 20mph below posted speed.

You need to Google, Bing, Ask dot com and type in Texas Traffic Law 545.157 and read the whole section. I'm willing to bet that if you were standing inches away from that little solid line and a vehicle screamed by just missing you by inches, I bet it would wake you up at the just some of the dangers that police face everyday. Also go to youtube and type in "Cops struck by vehicle during traffic stop". Oh yea then imagine that cop is a family member.

I'm so glad our wonderful peace officers are protecting us from drivers minimally exceeding the speed limit. So glad that TexDOT also changed the speed limits through Ellis County. No more easy money for you corrupt good-ol-boy hillbilly cops.
