On Highway 17 wherever there is construction.

Beaufort, South CarolinaApr 07, 20103 Comments

The speed limit is lowered from 45 to 35 4-5 miles before the construction and there is a stationary radar at the top of the hill which is even 2 miles before the construction. You can top that small grade and see the construction far off in the distance but by then you have passed the radar site and a HP stands out in the road and waves you over. This was back in 11/09.

Comments:
This is heavy construction area and veary clearly marked. FYI this route was in the top 10 dangerous highways prior to the improvements being implemented

We travel this road from Charleston to Savannah 3 months ago for a job interview. Saw the signs, etc. Never saw one construction vehicle. Recall traveling about 45 MPH with the flow of traffic which was alot. Well, the car in front of us dropped back behind us and turn the blue lights on. We ticketed for driving 45 MPH in construction zone. Yep, we were "behind" this car. As we continue the trip started noticing numerous unmarked and marked patrols cars pulling people over. Again, never saw no active construction going on (I know does not matter). By the way got job offer but turned it down, got better offer In Myrtle Beach. Paid the ticket over the phone and the county still claims have not done this. So trying to clear this up.

It may feel like a speed trap, but it is clearly marked and there is lots of construction equiptment and trucks. Once the most dangerous spot on HWY 17, now a problem is being fixed. Lots of State troopers and sheriffs, but the drivers are allways going too fast. Obey the posted speeds and save lives. I live one block from this and I have seen plenty of speeders and accidents.
