On HWY 112 near James Fork Creek

Rock Island, OklahomaOct 15, 20103 Comments

Brand new police department (Oct. 2010) in a small community of probably less than 500 people. You can’t really see the town from this highway (just a convenience store at the 112/120 junction) so it does not appear to be connected to any town. Police actually leave their real "city" area and sit on the side of this highway at various places to collect tickets from anyone without any, or very little, tolerance. City limit signs are posted at the South end near the James Fork river bridge but not at the North end of their city limits where it joins with Pocola. Daytime weekdays and Friday nights are the most active time periods.

Comments:
This town doesn't have speed traps. They now have a hiway that's being watched for those that have abused the speed limits through that area for many yrs and now they have got citations. It's clearly posted that radar is used so if your caught no one is to blame but yourself.

Rock Island has almost 1000 people in it and has 26+ square miles of area, That's bigger than Panama and Shady Point combined! Hwy 112 and 120 run through the middle of the towns land. The Police Department is doing a great job! The break-ins have stopped and the town people are glad they have an officer that is there for them and they don't have to worry if someone is going to show up or not when they call the police anymore.

Is the old highway 59 included in the city limits of Rock Island Oklahoma? It seems to be an awfully far distance from the town? I would really like to know where the city limits are located for Rock Island, Oklahoma.
