on North Fletcher Ave., W of B.B. Downs Blvd & E of 42nd St
Just North of the USF (Univ. of South Fla.) Campus. I was heading east on Fletcher Ave. at night. I was doing 50 MPH in a 45 zone. There is a retirement high rise building ( John Knox Village) about a 1/8 mi. or so east of Bruce B. Downs Blvd on the north side of Fletcher Ave. The speed limit drops abruptly from 45 MPH to 35 with a warning sign that says Senior Zone or Senior Citizen Zone. ( I didn’t see any senior citizens out and about at 2AM when I received the ticket). This is very easy to miss, especially when driving at night, and especially if you don’t drive in that area very much. The USF Campus police are waiting in on-campus parking lots for unknowing speed violators. They basically write tickets at will and raise alot of money for USF at the public’s expense. Please watch out if you’re in this area.
P.S.- I will admit though, the USF officer was nice enough to cut me a break on the speeding ticket and gave me a seat belt ticket instead. I guess I have to thank him for that!
