One end of Rhea County Hwy to the other

Dayton, TennesseeApr 17, 20103 Comments

Two local enforcement organization and the State Troopers. 3 Ways to get a Ticket. City cops are the worst as they look for suspects at every corner. Rhea County seat is in Dayton and an active town. The Good Old Boy, old time country establishment exists here. The still backward no-drinking laws are here in 2010 and forget a lunch-time drink and drive on. City cops are OK, but the County guys are real gun-ho. They have a chip on the shoulder and act like they are God’s gift to society. Drive the speed and you are OK, but they get you 5 miles over…be aware…no wiggle room.

I am a long time resident of Dayton, TN. I disagree with some of your comments. First, the County Deputies write less tickets than anyone else. The sheriff has not made speeding traps a part of his administration. He does however, expect deputies to ticket, excessive speeding, and reckless driving. The City, writes the most tickets in Dayton and does on a regular basis have radar set up throughout the City, especially along the highway 27 bypass. I would not call their actions excessive or a radar trap. In any case, the cars are very visible and no attempt is made to entrap speeders. Last, the State Patrol is another matter. The Patrol Officers all along highway 27, especially in adjoining Hamilton County, south of Rhea County are very agressive, and some officers are downright rude. They will hide their cars while radar spotting. If there is a trap it is just south of the Rhea County Line on a long strech of four lane highway that has numerous places for them to hide and shoot radar. I think your information on Rhea County is not very accurate.

I agree. The speedlimit on the bypass has been 45 for the 35 years I've lived here. Traffic usually moves around 50. Just watch for the idiots that think yellow lights mean floor it and people on cell phones that don't know we have traffic lights.

I, also have lived over 25 years in Rhea County, TN. While I agree with your comments that the sherriff deputies really are the least of your worries and the state troopers really are rude, disrespectful and arrogant, I have on many occasions seen county deputies speeding themselves. Maybe, that's why they tend to leave everyone alone. I personally like our sherriff's dept the best of all the enforcement officials around. State troopers? I hate.
