Outside Bristol TN, NB Hwy @ Poplar Ridge Road

Bluff City, TennesseeDec 19, 20104 Comments

December 2010,,,Tennessee welcome wagon! These folks are interested in one thing, and it’s not safety. It’s all about revenue collection. This road is PHOTO enforced. Posted speed of 45 and I was according to the photo machine doing 60. It’s a 4 lane road and maybe we could see another 3 to 4 cars total on both sides of the street. Next year we will travel and soend our $$ in another state!

Comments:
Traveling from Georgia to Virginia and was ticketed by this speed trap in Bluff City TN I was driving, I am listed first on the registration, yet they sent the ticket to my wife (who wasn't even on the trip). I wanted to fight it but since the ticket was issued to her she wanted me to pay it and get it over with. I will not spend another dime in Bluff City, Tennessee. In fact, I might spend money exposing this trap.

Entire town is speed trap...speed limit lowers without warning in some areas and cop is sitting just the other side of sign. US 11E and 19E major 4 lane highways through area and the limit is 45mph, tell me that is not a trap and revenue generator. The major highway coming from the south (Johnson City) to Bristol Motor Speedway is 11E and they just love out of state tags. Got me coming out onto 11E from Ridgeway Restaurant said I was doing 60 in 45...100' after pulling onto road !!...what a joke..no wasn't driving my Top Fuel Funny car that day...lol. Town hall is double-wide so is police station at end of gravel road hidden behind hill. Don't blame them for hiding with such practices. My advice go entirely around this town and save your money !!

When a town makes more revenue in a speed trap and is known in 3 surrounding states for this action then it is a pitiful Municipal government that allows this intentional trap to go own for over 8 years as I have found out now. It is bad when they use a camera and a total 10mph slow down from 55mph to 45mph then back to 55mph within a mile and make their money in what they call legal and we all call thievery. I guess this is mostly to prey on out of state and not locals who even travel a different road home after work instead of the speed trap route?

Anyone short on money for a Christmas gift be sure to avoid Bluff City, TN. altogether of by the time you get through the speed traps areas (multiple, but Popular Street, being a popular one for the city revenue) you won't be able to afford Christmas, but they will in the city government department. It lowers local taxes and improves the money fund for another speed trap which in turn helps finance the whole town in some way. No place for a tourist or a traveler to stop at a hotel, so go around it and keep some extra money from fee grabbers!
