Perdido Beach Boulevard near crossing alabama point bridge

Orange Beach, AlabamaFeb 18, 20051 Comments

as you top the alabama point bridge they sit on the right in a public beach parking lot. if your going over 45 when you top the bridge, its too late! they see you before you see them. its 45 and its 4 lane, but the town has posted 45-strictly enforced. also at nite a mile down on the florida-alabama border is the world famous flora-bama lounge. orange beach watches that bar and will follow you westward-back across the bridge, so beware!

Comments:
It's not really a trap. The bridge has a steep arch, and drivers are unable to see what's over the top. If you're doing 55 (it's a 45 zone), you'll be hard-pressed to stop in time for a disabled car when they appear in view. There's no breakdown lane, but there is a bike lane on the north side, which cyclists use at the risk of foolish drivers. There are intersections at the bottom of the descent, where speeds tend to peak... ripe for an accident. By the way, the Orange Beach are extremely tolerant of the thousands of yahoos that visit each year. The officers will turn on their emergency lights to signal speeding drivers, and tend to overlook cars doing 10 mph over the limit. Lived here ten years, and have never seen a car pulled over that didn't REALLY deserve it.
