Almost two years ago, construction was started on Pine Island between Commercial Boulvard on the North and just past 25th on the South. Accordingly, the speed limit was reduced. That work was completed about six months ago but the speed limit was never changed. Motorcycle police patrol this stretch of Pine Island enthusiastically, rewarded by the fact that all other areas of Pine Island are 40MPH zones except for those that are 45MPH. This is not a safety issue; Sunrise is feeding off motorists who rightfully think that a six lane thoroughfare must have a correspondingly high speed. Avoid this area by using University on the east and Nob Hill on the west.
