Police have been watching this intersection and the 4-lane divided section of Pleasant Valley Rd. recently. Most drivers turn slowly onto Pleasant Valley and stay in the left lane since the right lane ends about 1/2 mile up, but is tempting to take the right lane and burn past all the slow drivers. The people that live in the older neighborhoods along Pleasant Valley probably get pissed about the younger, more affluent crowd from South Riding speeding along that road, and they have probably complained to the police. As a result, I have seen cops sitting in streets or parking lots on the right side of Pleasant Valley during the evening rush hour. Also, there are sometimes cops sitting along Poland Rd. near the Edgewater entrance to South Riding. The speed limit along Pleasant Valley and Poland are both 35 but many drive at least 45.

As a side note, be very careful to leave space between you and the car ahead of you (can’t do much about the car behind you) as you approach the Pleasant Valley intersection on Rt. 50. Traffic has a tendency to stop abruptly, and I got caught in the middle last July and my car was totalled. I stopped in time, but with only 2 or 3 feet to spare from the car ahead of me, but the big utility truck behind me couldn’t stop and smashed me and put the front end of my car under the Grand Cherokee ahead of me.
