Speed goes from 70 to 50. Cop sits on the 50 mark and gets you if you are 5 miles over.

Comments:
I got a ticket there, northbound out of Groesbeck. I just sped up too quick before the 50 MPH sign. In getting information, I discovered some interesting things. The Judge is insistent the speed limit on Highway 84 within Groesbeck is set by State law, but the TxDOT insists that while they install the signs, the speed limits inside cities is never set by the State. Interestingly, there actually is no Texas State law against breaking a speed limit. The law that applies is a broader law against driving at an unsafe speed. State speed limit signs aren't limits, really, they are primia facie evidence of the fastest anyone in his right head would drive in the best of conditions. In other words, the Groesbeck judge says I broke a state law for violating a State speed limit. Various sources in the State say there is no law against exceeding the speed limit, the violation is driving at an unsafe speed. The Groesbeck Judge says the speed limit I violated was a State speed limit, but the State says they didn't set the limit, the City did. And most interesting of all, I've been asking the Judge since January to tell me what law I broke, and have gotten no answer. The Judge finally said she won't tell me, and that if I wanted to know more I could "Google it." So I Googled. Texas Constitution, Article 1, Section 10, says that the accused in court has a right to the nature and cause of charges against him, which I think may mean he has to be told what law he's broken. Texas Penal Code 39.03 says a government employee commits a Class A Misdemeanor ($4,000 fine, one year in jail) if he or she impedes a citizen in the enjoyment of any right. It's called "Official Oppression". Weird, isn't it?

I would strongly suggest that a person know where they were when they got stopped. Hwy 84 is not in Groesbeck.....
