Rio Grande Blvd at Mountain Road

Albuquerque, New MexicoOct 18, 20102 Comments

Police car sits and waits for traffic to turn on to Mountain Road coming from the North or South on Rio Grande Blvd. This is at the North end of the Old Town shopping district. Speed limit turns into 18 MPH!?! After going only 70 mph on the race track also known as I-40 all the way from El Morro I get stopped and ticketed by a local cop only seconds from where I was staying during my vacation. Thanks a lot local cops. I guess small population states like New Mexico need some way to increase revenue. A nice way to end my final evening in Albuquerque before flying home the next day.

Comments:
Mountain is a Bicycle Blvd, it is adjacent to Central (a busy main thoroughfare) the road is NOT a through street, so why you would want to speed on this road that is very clearly posted every 100 ft "18 MPH Bicycle Blvd" this road is used by many families and children going to and from the huge parks and museums located on the road; we don't need tourists that are so disrespectful to our children as to call this a "speed trap" you should be ashamed with your rude impatient self!

I-40 is about a mile from mountain and the speed limit is not 70, it is 65! Rio Grande is a residential street as is Mountain and the speed limit on Rio Grande is 35 mph the area has VERY heavy foot traffic from Old town (a tourist spot) and it also has 2 bicycle lanes; as for the police car, there is a police station located at the corner of Central and Rio Grande, they have a responsibility to the community to protect children from danger, such as speeders that wont read or can't read the traffic signs that are over sized and in reflective purple to attract the attention of distracted drivers. You may want to avoid the area during Christmas, parades, holidays as we have mounted Police on Draft horses that patrol Old Town and the Parks/museums, definitely a Kodak moment with those huge horses, but we really don't want the guy that got that ticket to come back to our safe Old town!
