Robert Hardeman Road off Main Street

The speed limit changes from 35 mph to 45 mph & there is almost always a police officer there who "claims" that he "clocked" a driver going over 35 mph as he was passing them, going in the opposite direction, before the speed limit changed. Be especially careful on weekends as he is always there. I live in Winterville & know several people who have been ticketed here. Some have tried to argue in court, but no judge is going to call a police officer a liar. Winterville police never, to my knowledge, offer "warnings." The police chief, in a newspaper article, even bragged about how many speeding/traffic violations would be issued this year – 1,500 in a town with a population of around 1,000. Isn’t this a "quota?"

Yes, I believe this could be considered a quota. Also, he clocks you, passing in the other direction - toward Main Street - AFTER the speed limit has changed to 45mph & claims he clocked you, in a moving vehicle - BEFORE the speed limit changed! I've known people who have tried to fight this, taking pictures of where they were stopped. etc... - well past the 45mph when the officer supposedly clocked them & claimed it was before the speed limit changed. Especially beware on weekends. Friends who live on Main Street say they just listen for the sirens & say, "Well, he got another one." This is beyond a joke. I have an attorney friend who has tried cases in Winterville & has said that it's the worst he's ever witnesssed in all of his years defending people in "smal towns" in Georgia known as "speed traps." Other than the Nazi police officers - & I don't knpw about them all - Winterville is an idyllic place to live. This just happens to be a BIG reason people avoid it!
