Rock Hill I 77 from exit 77 to exit 90

Rock Hill, South CarolinaApr 12, 20103 Comments

On two lane interstates throughout South Carolina the speed limit is 70. In Rock Hill it widens to 8 lanes and the speed limit drops to 60. The troopers are there 7 days per week, Saturday and Sunday mornings included, when there is no traffic. You can drive from Rock Hill to Florence at 70 MPH on a narrow old 2 lane road. But coming into Rock Hill on a new 4 lane they will be waiting 7 days per week with a 60 MPH limit. If this isn’t a speed trap, I don’t know what would be.

This has been a speed trap since I-77 first opened here. I have heard truckers refer to it as the "World Famous Carolina Speed Trap." I do live near it, and travel it almost daily. And there is almost always a police car or more than one on the side with some poor sucker who didn't realize the speed limit here is 10mph lower than expected.

I think the speed limits dropped due to congestion coming from Dave Lyle and Celanese. I don't agree with it but just keep an eye on your speed. On many occasions I too have seen patrols with speeders pulled over. I've also seen a lot of idiots driving overly aggressive. That's what the cops need to focus on.
