Route 41 Entering City from South

Punta Gorda, FloridaSep 07, 20102 Comments

Those never in Punta Gorda must be especially observant as speed drops from 50 to 40 entering PG on Rte 41 from the South. Police are waiting for those who fail to slow down. Out-of-staters especially vulnerable. Oh well, at least the sizeable ticket I got turned me off of the city in a serious way and saved me from making a house purchase in PG.

Comments:
Obviously the unhappy motorist isn't very observant at all. The speed limit does not drop from 50 mph to 40 mph. It actually drops from 45 mph to 35 mph, then again to 30 mph. This is due to the congestion caused by the traffic light at US 41 and Marion Avenue. Also the abundance of pedestrians in the area is also a reason for the drop in speed. The City of Punta Gorda does not set the speed limit nor dp they receive any type of compensation for tickets written. In other words, pay attention and slow down and you won't have a problem.

I live close to this "speed trap", at 50 mph in town I'm pleased that it is enforced. If I need to go faster I drive 1 mile to I75 and the limit is 70. I've seen many bad accidents in this area due to people driving 70 in a congested area. I guess I'm glad to have the police who by the way do a really good job in our quiet little town, I hope the person who didn't buy here is as happy where they live as I am here. And I hope they keep the speed down when they drive by here.
