Ryan Street near South Ryan Street

Lake Charles, LouisianaMay 24, 20081 Comments

Ryan St. north of where Sallier St. (the railroad tracks) cross to South Ryan St./7th Street crossing. Most of Ryan St. south of this point is 40-45mph 4-lane. Around Sallier St. it goes to 35mph and 3-lane (2 northbound, 1 southbound) and will drop even lower as you continue north of South Ryan/7th street (same street, just changes names from one side of Ryan to the other). This is a huge drop in the distance of about a block with no obvious reason for it. Police typically will hide in the shade under one of the large trees at or near the old church parking lot (which is now a restaurant) on the East side of the road. Difficult to spot on sunny days due to the tree and shade hiding their outline so well. I have been alerted to both laser and radar at this location, but laser was only once and may have been an evaluation unit as they were also using radar 100 yards north of that location (I have never had another laser hit in Lake Charles).

Comments:
Correction & Update: The speed limit on Ryan St. South of Sallier St. is 35 MPH all the way down to it's south end, not 40 - 45. Also, Ryan St. North of Sallier St. is 30MPH until it reaches Clarence St., where it reduces to 25MPH, where it remains to it's north end. South Ryan St.'s name has been changed to Dr. Michael Debakey Dr.
