Undercover traffic OSP active during weekdays. Morning and afternoons. US 97 corridor between Redmond and Bend is operational area- I most often see just south of Redmond city limits. All undercover units are blue-related colors. Usually a lighter blue or a teal. Known units are a teal charger and a medium blue crown vic. Totally unmarked, often parked perpendicular to the road like they are pulling out to merge. This is a four-lane, no-median section of roadway at 55 mph. Traffic generally travels up to 70 mph without being stopped, though 70 might be pushing it a bit for out-of-state drivers. Anecdotal reports indicate undercover traffic units will drive aggressively to try and cause others to do the same, then make traffic stop. Usually multiple units work this detail together with undercover unit initiating stop and other marked or unmarked units providing immediate backup. Therefore they call them pretext traffic stops" whatever that means."

As an ex-police officer, I first feel that anyone driving in a manner that endangers others should be cited, with that said, I feel that I was an honorable and just officer, any Police Officer that intentionally commits an action to intice an individual into committing a crime, is also guilty of that crime. There is never a need to force an action to get a car stop, it puts even more people in a situation that could endanger them, their passengers or other drivers.
