Sand Island Road – Route 64

Honolulu, HawaiiMay 12, 20020 Comments

This speed trap includes most of Sand Island Road. This is a 5 lane highway with no major intersections or traffic lights. Its basicly a dead end street that starts at Nimitz Highway, goes for about 6 miles and ends at a State Park. They have 4 speed traps setup on this road, at Auiki Street and Sand Island Road, Around a bend by the Keehi Marine Yard, by Sand Island bridge, and around a bend before the coast guard station. As no elites drive this dead end street its perfect for entrapping the working poor, their targets are truck drivers, coast guard, and employees from an industrial park. Their favorite spot is where the highway changes from 35 mph to 25 mph, just passed the Matson Terminal, this barren section has no cross streets, traffic lights, or driveways. Beware if you have to do business there, they have 4 traps setup on that dead end street waiting for you. The only people on this road work by the hour, the longest part of your journey will be the 6 mile drive down a 4 lane divided highway at 25 mph. Go figure.
