School Zone

Linden, TexasOct 17, 20121 Comments

There is a lighted sign that says school zone 55 on a 4 lane high way . then a little ways up the highway has a sign high above the street that says school zone 35 that you can’t see if you’re not looking up.

Comments:
There are streets from which you turn directly into this school zone without warning. No signage at all and an officer waiting for you at the end, where it’s too late. If you are not from Linden and just passing through and you turn onto this hwy from a side street and are unaware you are entering the school zone it appears as if you are about to enter one, not exit (until you approach the sign which states “end school zone”). This is where they have their police officers sit. While pulled over recently for Speeding through a school zone I tried explaining to the officer that this defeats the purpose of the school zone. This trap is a danger to children. I understand the need for revenue, just not at the cost of safety. The officer made it very clear to me that DPS knows about it, and that it’s been reported several times by motorists, also that nothing will ever be done to change it. He explained that any efforts to argue the situation in court will be futile and that there will never be a school zone sign placed on the side street stating that you’re entering a school zone. This is a danger to children and busses in the zone. If I did live there I would be very upset. I have children who attend school. I have never been ticketed in over 25 years of driving. I am concerned daily for the safety of children traveling to and from school and would NEVER speed through a school zone. Beware and please look out for kids when driving through Linden! In my opinion the value of safety trumps revenue.
