This speed trap takes place from the parking lot of the "Shady Oak Duck Pond", just south of Highway 7 on Shady Oak Road. The road itself is the dividing line between Hopkins and Minnetonka – the parking lot is considered to be in Hopkins. I have seen both Hopkins and Minnetonka officers parked in the pond parking lot. Minnetonka officers will park facing northbound, tagging cars going down the hill from TH 7 heading southbound (driving on the Minnetonka side of the road). Hopkins officers will park facing southbound, tagging cars coming from the south (from the direction of Excelsior Blvd., Main Street).

The duck pond parking lot is pretty dark at night. With a speed limit of only 30 miles per hour, it is very easy (especially headed down the hill on the Minnetonka side) to exceed the posted. Watch your speed in this area!
