it’s usually wide open and empty even when there’s bumper to bumper traffic on the bruckner and cross bronx. for this reason, when you finally get off of either, you are really tempted to just mash your foot down and enjoy the feeling of escape and freedom on this inviting, vast straightaway.

unfortunately, a couple of squad cars are usually camped at the south end of this stretch at the top of the hill. and they’ve got speed guns aimed right at the southbound traffic coming towards them.

i’ve never gotten nailed, but i’ve seen a multitude of cars with depressed and/or angry looking drivers having unwanted conversations with state troopers.
