Simmons Road (Coming off of FM 407)

Double Oak, TexasApr 04, 20101 Comments

The speed limit is 30 on Simmons Road. The officers situate themselves away from the road and use their lasar guns to get residents and non-residents on the street. The have purposely kept no street lights on the road and posted 6 small speed signs. Avoid this street! In fact, avoid Double Oak, Texas at all costs!

Comments:
Double Oak's tax base is static, if not declining,g and this is the only way they make money. My impression is that even the Double Oak police hate this place since the turnover in the DO police department is brisk. They get out of here as fast as they can. Every, and I mean every, intersection has a stop sign and woe to anyone who doesn't make a complete stop at each. And while you're making a 3-second stop, you get to read a smart-aleck sign posted below the stop sign that threatens you with a big fine if you don't make a complete stop. This must be Double Oak's idea of high wit but it strikes me as irritating and rude. I've lived here 10 years and have NEVER gotten a ticket, by the way. But I can't wait to move out next spring. I'm tired of the petty silliness of this glorified subdivision that fancies itself an old-fashioned country town. From the lack of streetlights and sidewalks to no public sewer system, Double Oak was built on the cheap and still has to resort to harassing everyone who drives through to pay its bills. Maybe if they employed fewer traffic cops (and stopped outfitting town hall employees with SUV's) they wouldn't have to issue 2mph over-the-limit tickets. This is how stupid Double Oak is: they actually got an anti-terrorist grant from the Department of Homeland Security and used it to buy bullet-proof vests for the police. Avoid this place.
