Speed limit drops from 70 to 25 and it is downhill into town. Your speed better be 25mph as you round the turn into town from the south. Highway Patrol are almost always parked along this main street, especially at night.

My wife and I traveled into Caliente from the south on Jan.20, 2011 after coming down from a high pass which took us directly into the town and after rounding a curve on which a reduced speed sign was posted and then a 45 mph sign in about 100 yards we were immediately apprehended by the police and charged with doing 46 mph in a 25 mph zone. Neither my wife or I ever saw the 25mph sign. We also noted as we were leaving the town to the north on the highway another officer was ticketing others that were south bound. This was at mid day.
