South of Town

The State HWY Patrol sits there waiting for people to accelerate. This is a 35MPH Zone and they will bust your chops.

Problem is – it looks like 45 so be careful. They got me.

Comments:
This speed trap is still being used, along with the other one noted on the north end of town, both simultaneously on a nighttime, lightly-trafficked, and zero pedestrian Thursday evening, no safety issues were being addressed with the enforcement, purely revenue-raising. One OSP vehicle (dark in color) was just entering town, shrouded in darkness, all lights off, just after the speed goes from 45 to 35. Further south, the limit drops to 30 where pedestrians are abundant during the day, then goes back up to 35 for a mile or so. Another OSP was somewhere in here, probably about the Whale Cove Inn based on where they caught up to their victim this evening. Further south, in a bumpy and irregular pavement section (due to weather/other damage) where it's 55 mph and nothing more than that is safe, as just hitting the pavement a certain way can pull you into the opposing lane, is where the enforcement should be, but that would be addressing a safety issue, not just revenue-raising!

The place they apparently sit is out in the open, but off the road a bit and aimed towards the southbound traffic with their wheels turned conveniently to the left, or facilitating their giving chase to a vehicle traveling SB. They set up just south of the Shell station that's on the east side of the highway, just about where the road straightens out going NB to go through town. The speed has just dropped to 35 mph that way, and an alert NB-traveling motorist can see them in daylight at the last minute, probably in time given the cops' apparent focus, which seems to be SB, as they could clock you in the southernmost part of the 30 mph zone well before you'd be aware of them (unless you knew where to look), just south of and across the bridge from where most pedestrians congregate, and they no doubt know where it changes to 35 mph for nailing motorists who might be lulled into gunning it in the more-open segment there, as it conveniently doesn't bump up to 45 mph until well past where the cop sits. The other day, the cop was stationed here when we went by late a.m. going NB to Lincoln City, and a few hours later going SB they were still there. At night, their dark-colored car is well shrouded by darkness/lack of lighting.
