Southbound exit ramp from I-75 to Eureka Ave

Taylor, MichiganAug 27, 20114 Comments

There not a sign in the intersection prohibiting right turns on red at this intersection (as stipulated by Michigan law). However, police sit in the parking lot waiting for people who miss a small sign earlier on the exit ramp. They quickly write an expensive administrative fine. The city budget for fines is 10% this year, up from 6% received in 2010. This combination makes this area dangerous for visitors.

Comments:
I was given an "impeding traffic" ticket at this intersection. It was dark and rainy that night and I did not see the small sign posted "no right turn on red" onto Eureka road from the ramp. I hate Taylor.

I was given "impeding traffic" ticket instead of receiving points on license for turning right on red. However I was not impeding traffic. In Ohio your signs have to be "with the traffic devise" and I am from Ohio. This "no turn on red" sign is across 2 lanes of traffic in the median, just where you would never think to look for a sign telling you that! That day Ohio plates were targeted as we saw several other cars with Ohio plates getting tickets also. Not even a warning was giving for those out of state not realizing those signs could be any place in the world but where you would expect to see one which is next to or at least somewhere around the traffic signal. This is very much a target area and those out of state beware. Good revenue for the city but mighty bad relations for the public. Will never stay in Taylor again.

Received same ticket 2 months ago and appeared in court today for the second time. With due respect to the officers and the city, I beat the ticket. M.D.O.T. and the MICHIGAN MANUAL ON UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES both state that when an R 3-2 sign ( a prohibited no left turn sign) is used it is always to be accompanied by a sign at the intersection which specifies the prohibited act . a court officer who was a "ROCKSTAR" told me hes never seen anyone ever fight this ticket. Everyone takes the impeding and pays the fine. well the cops are aware of this intersection and told me they don't like giving these tickets and the prosecutor is aware of this intersection and he was Good Man because he saw fit to dismiss my ticket when I provided him the codes that were not being met with the signage. but fight this ticket, its wrong, look up the law, they have been doing this since at least 2007. and what they need to do is to improve the signage so the public is safer and they can get revenue elsewhere. Also as far as the R 3-2 signs on the off ramp they are not the required 2500 feet from the intersection and they are prior to a previous intersection which also doesn't meet signage requirements. GOOD LUCK FIGHT THE GOOD FIGHT. I HOPE NONE ARE HARMED EITHER BY ACCIDENT OR BY FINANCIAL LOSS AT THIS INTERSECTION AGAIN.
