Southbound Rocklin Road at Hwy 80.

Rocklin, CaliforniaJun 13, 20101 Comments

If you’re heading Eastbound on Hwy 80, and exit on Rocklin Road southbound, there is an ARCO gas station immediately to your right. If you are not familiar with this area, there is no posted speed limit until about 3/4 of a mile further down the road.

After passing the first stoplight (Aguilar), there is a motorcycle policeman who tucks his bike up on an incline on private property about 50 yards past the light. The incline is covered heavily with bushes and trees, making it virtually impossible to see the officer. Sometimes there is one, sometimes there are two. Neither are using radar or lidar. It’s a “site” speeding ticket; and like other cities, Rocklin needs the revenue.

You have been forewarned.

Comments:
Keep in mind- the defintion of a speed trap is when the posted signs indicate a speed lower than what an engineering traffic survey (ETS) found to be the safe speed AND an officer then writes a ticket based on that low speed. It is not illegal for ofcrs. to hide in bushes. The ofcrs. you mentioned are looking for cell phone and seatbelt violations- not speed. They sit up high on that driveway so they can see down into cars. The "site" type of speeding ticket you refer to is called "visual estimation" where only ofcrs. who are trained and certified to estimate speed can do so then write tickets. This scenario is usually reserved for the most egregious speeding violations where the speed is so fast there is no time to use LIDAR or RADAR. You must have been going pretty fast.
