Southbound US 321\I-85

Heading south on US 321 about a mile before the I-85 on ramp, it looked like a wasp nest when I travelled through there on my way back to Atlanta around 10 PM, but saw it too late. Got a $170 ticket for 70 in a 55. Explained to the officer that I knew I was doing 70, but sincerely thought the speed limit was still 65, to no avail – there were two other cars pulled over by the time I left. The speed limit drops from 65 down to 45, well before you hit any area congestion, and apparently pretty rapidly. I never saw any speed signs, but it was at night – thought I was going with the flow of traffic. I received letters from three different attorneys soliciting to "defend" my case. I guess an entire economy is formed around this town’s speed traps.

Comments:
The speed limit here actually drops from 65 to 55 about 3 miles north of the location where the original poster noted. Then drops again to 45 as you enter Gastonia heading south on US 321

I would have to disagree that this is a "speed trap", much as I don't like to see people get undeserved tickets. As pointed out, the limit drops from 65 to 55 at least 2 miles north of the Interchange, then to 45. Traffic congestion at this location is notorious as it piles up at I-85 waiting to get onto the Interstate. There is PLENTY of warning and there are rarely cops sitting out there *just* to write tickets for people zooming along past the Dallas Crossroads. IOW, one gets LOTS of warning prior to Dallas, then a long stretch at 55 thru the congested area. People DO zoom thru there, and the fact they get a ticket because of it is not due to a "trap"; its because they ignore the limit thru this congested area! (I am not a cop).

IN NORTH CAROLINA ALL FINES GO TO THE SCHOOL BOARD AND THE COST OF COURTS TO FOR THE OPERATION OF THE COURT SYSTEM. THE POLICE AGENICES DO NOT RECEIVE ANY OF THESE MONIES.
