Southern Oregon – State Highway 62 between Medford & Crater Lake
Shady Cove is a town of 2150 people located alongside of the Rogue River on the Crater Lake Highway (State Hwy 62). The city police cruise the main street through town continually day and night with constant radar monitering. The posted speed limit drops from 55 to 45 to 35 to 30 in town. 5 mph over the posted speed is a guaranteed ticket and contesting a ticket in the city court almost never results in a reduction.

The semi-corrupt police department in Shady Cove has collapsed, and the Jackson County Sheriff's Department has taken over monitoring traffic and other Law Enforcement issues. In a sharp contrast to the old "regime", the Deputies are a straight up, professional group of men and women. Having said that, the monitoring continues in this little tourist town, especially in the summer, when you need to look out for wandering sun-burned tourists who step off the curb without warning. The speed limits are still actively enforced, albeit with more realistic limitations. Be mindful of the graduated speed increases southbound out of town, and resist the inclination to jump right up to 50, or they'll getcha.
