State Highway 123 near Occoquan River Bridge Southbound

Occoquan, VirginiaSep 10, 20061 Comments

Fairfax County Police operate a speedtrap southbound. Road is posted 35 MPH, Construction Zone, approaching the bridge across the Occoquan River into Prince William County.

Comments:
The speed limit coming down the hill is 40 whereas the speed limit approaching the bridge to go up the hill is 40 until you get to the intersection for Occoquan and then it is 55 going up the hill. I live in Occoquan and I believe that speed limit coming down the hill is very appropriate. The intersection into Occoquan can be very dangerous for the residents and visitors of our historic town. Another difficulty with that intersection is the pile up of traffic and the number of people who will block the intersection. The average traffic speed and by that I mean 99 out of 100 cars are doing inappropriately exaggerated speed due to picking up speed coming down the hill from the 55 changing to a 40. It is not uncommon to see people passing that intersection at over 70 miles an hour At that intersection the town becomes residential and should slow down. I have put forth a recommendation to the Occoquan city board to emphasize the speed limit change at the top of the hill before the bridge. Also we have voited in a new mayor which will put greater emphasis on our pedestrain traffic in our historical town, pursuing our traffic laws with more gusto. We will not falter, we will not tire, we will not fail, be warned.
