State Highway 146 near State Route 3

Cape Girardeau, IllinoisMay 10, 20061 Comments

Usually an Alexander County Sheriff or Deputy. I have personally been ticketed twice by the same unit. State Routes 146 and 3 intersect 4 miles east of E. Cape Girardeau, IL (and the Mississippi River). The 4 mile stretch from the intersection to the river is most often patroled later in the PM hours, but I have seen the area patroled at different times of the day. The patroling units will usually give you 5-10 MPH over the posted speed limit of 55, which becomes 45 (or 35, I can’t remember) as you enter the small village of E. Cape Girardeau.

Comments:
This stretch of highway NEEDS to be monitored closely especially at night. There have been many BAD car wrecks caused by drunks crossing from MO. into Illinois and they are usually Illinois residents. One police car was totally destroyed and the deputy miriaculously recieved only minor injuries. Thanks to a speeding drunk who was caught by other officers.
