State Highway 160 near State Highway 160

Del Norte, ColoradoJan 19, 20072 Comments

Colorado State Hwy 160 runs through Del Norte. The city is only about one mile long. No Joke, if you are going one mile over the speed limit you may be stopped. I was stopped going two miles over the limit. I was given a warning. The speed limit goes from 40-30-25MPH. Watch out! This could be you!

Comments:
Coming from Denver, I missed a turn in Alamosa and drove Hwy 160 through Del Norte before I realized my error. I reversed course and headed back at 60 mph. The 35 sign came up so suddenly that I missed it but slowed to 25 in time for that sign, which came very quickly. The cop said I was going 52 (for 15 seconds) and busted me with a $135 fine and a $25 "surcharge" = $160. He said the local judge was very lenient and if I came back to be in court he would reduce the fine and drop the points. I am a gray head and he probably thought I was stupid. I'll send the check. In any case, I was home-towned. Just the price of poker in backwater Colorado.

Went on Vacation in that area last summer (2011) and went through the town several times. My Valentine radar detector was constantly buzzing Ka! You could get radiation burns in that town!
