State Highway 195 near James Street

At the south end of Colfax, WA, where James St turns into State Highway 195. The speed limit is 25 through town, and changes to 45 at the edge of town. But if you speed up to 45 before reaching the sign, the cops will pull you over. Cops like to sit in private driveways in this area, and prey on unsuspecting drivers. Locals know where they hide, but visitors are caught off guard. The City says that it is still a residential zone, but I think they depend on the revenue from all the tickets. In my opinion, 35 would be more than a safe speed. Colfax, a town of 2500 residents, is also thte County Seat. So it is headquarters for city, county and state police, and all three entities benifit from the revenue from the speeding tickets written.

Comments:
I live in Colfax, Washington. I am grateful that the 25-mile per hour speed limit is enforced. A lot of drivers passing through Colfax exceed that speed limit; I know because they pass me when I am driving 25 mph. When Colfax's main street was enlarged from two to four lanes, so that traffic would less likely get jammed for lefthand turns, it became a lot more dangerous for pedestrians. Most drivers passing through do not pay attention to crosswalks, and it is a miracle that more children and the elderly have not been hit. This occurs at 25 mph; it would be even worse if the speed was 35 mph. I ask drivers who read this to please take care... thank you.
