State Highway 206 near Main Street

Greene, New YorkDec 17, 20031 Comments

Coming into the Village of Greene on 206 from the east, the patrol sits at the bottom of the hill and reads you as you round the right-ward curve near the graveyard. The speed limit reduces to 30 from 45 or 55, but the street doesn’t reduce to "village" size until the bottom of the hill. Several people I’ve talked to have been pulled over and consequently harrassed at this trap.

Comments:
The village police and the state police that also cover the village of green also profile cars and drivers. Anyone driving an older vehicle or anyone who appears younger than 30 has a better than average chance of being stopped for minor or perceived infractions. Then they bring out their drug sniffing dog. Their court fees are also above most in the state, even those on Long lsland. The fines are certainly a big source of revenue for Greene. l was raised here and moved back 3 years ago. Every road leading into Greene is a speed trap, particularly Rt. 32 and Rt 206. People who live on a road near the cemetary on Rt 206 say they have seen police lights go off 20 to 30 times a day on that stretch of road.
