State Highway 21 near FM 1196

Chireno, TexasSep 28, 20072 Comments

About a mile past FM 1196 going west on Hwy 21, just as you cross into Nacogdoches County the speed limit drops from 70 to 55 and just around the curve a DPS officer is sitting there waiting.

Comments:
I was stopped in the speed trap in Chireno and it happened just like you have said. I had just crossed over from San Augustine County to Nacogdoches County and the speed limit went from 70 to 55 and I forgot about it and was chucking right along when I saw a hwy. patrol coming up behind me with his light flashing. I pulled over and he told me I was over the speed limit (there shouldn't even be a speed limit there), and I told him I was sorry and didn't realize that it had dropped that much. So he wrote me a ticket as I was going 67 in a 55 mile speed zone. I truly didn't realize although I live in San Augustine. It cost me $165.00 U a good lesson that there are definitely many speed traps. Since then I have spoken to so many people that live in San Augustine and going to Nacogdoches, they have gotten tickets there..He is always waiting and I think that should be stopped and the speed limit should not decrease but just stay the same. No reason for it to be there except for it being a perfect place to put a speed trap. Everyone should knoe this is not right to have these around just so they can write tickets.
