State Highway 25 near State Highway 25

Bernie, MissouriMay 31, 20071 Comments

The stretch of Highway 25 that runs through Bernie is a notorious speed trap from one end of town to the other. Coming south from Dexter, the speed limit is 55 until you get about 1/2 mile north of Bernie, where it goes to 45. About 2/10 mile later, it drops to 25 for a 1/2 mile, goes back up to 45 briefly and then back to 55 south of town. The most common places for the officer to hide are:

1) Behind the "Welcome to Bernie" sign on the north side of town, where he can catch southbound drivers immediately as the sign denoting the lower speed limit comes into view. He also catches northbound drivers who hit the gas just a little too soon.

2. In the parking lot of the Amoco gas station, particularly after closing time when the station is dark and it makes him hard to see until you’re right up on him.

3. The Town & Country supermarket on the south end of town. He likes to sit behind the store’s sign as it is low to the ground and makes it nearly impossible for drivers on the opposite side to see him until it is too late. Basically, this is a town of about 500 people which means:
-it is the towns main source of revenue.

Comments:
You are a little behind time. The speed limit was raised to 35 a couple of years ago. Also Officers are not allowed to give tickets on speed now if not above 15 mph over limit. They are doing much better. The don't do much radar anymore.
