State Highway 289

Gunter, TexasFeb 22, 20032 Comments

Speed limit changes from 70mph to 55mph to 35mph within one mile.

Comments:
Actually, the posted mph have changed. Once you cross in to Grayson County, the spead limit increases from 60 to 70mph and then drops back to 60 and then immediately drops to 45mph. There is a school zone at the 45mph mark that requires you to slow down to 30mph. Then, it's back to 45mph then to 50 mph. Wait, there is another school zone, but this one is 35mph. Then, it goes back to 50mph and eventually back up to 60mph. All of that happens in a five mile stretch of road. Going South in the same location, once you cross in to Collin County from Grayson, the speed drops IMMEDIATELY from 70MPH to 60MPH. State Troopers are always available to remind you along with both Gunter and Celina police.

Actually, all of Gunter is a speed trap. You will be ticketed on Kerfoot, main st, 289 for nominal speeds as the town is using ticketing to create revenue. Last year this little town raised over $300,000 in speeding tickets - many less than 40 miles per hour. Take the speed limit signs seriously as the police will be waiting within feet of the sign.
