Yes, so so true. This little dip in the road with a couple houses and a traffic light, and a gas station and the infamous Agway and beer store has been a trap since forever. It was a trap when my mother learned to drive in the mid 1960's! We were all warned growing up to always do the limit exactly or slightly under when driving this section of 322 East, this is one of the most notorious, oldest, infamous and well-known traps in PA. It is a vicious setup run by a brutal police department whose only intent is to take your money, safety is not the priority here. East Brandywine PD is known regionally and locally as being overly aggressive, hammer-fisted sticklers with nothing else to do but run traffic and harass people for the fun of it. Many people get tickets in this township and are told to take the "failure to obey traffic device" ticket and advised not to fight the ticket or get hammered in fines and points. Magistrate is very cop friendly and will basically blow you off in court, no sympathy. Basically take it and shut up, pay the money and move on. It's legalized road extortion, you literally feel like you've been robbed on the side of the road and that's exactly what it is. If you call PSP Emeryville barracks, you don't even have to mention Guthriesville, they already know all about and will advise you to pay it and forget it as you won't win with these cops. The state has known about this trap for many years and will tell you the same thing as well. They have advised this township to knock it off and have tried to get legislation on the books to stop this township and other infamous speed trap areas from using speed traps and tickets for revenue enhancement and budget purposes. This township has flat out refused and has defiantly continued with this dirty business as it's way too profitable and far too much money to give up. All main roads, back roads, any road including 322 (Horseshoe Pike) E&W, SR 82 N&S are littered with timing lines all over the place. One of the worst of the worst is on 322 E heading down the huge hill towards the traffic light with Sunoco on the corner. On the right hand side headed downhill eastbound is the enormous EB Township complex including the EBPD which funny enough has timing lines in front of across both lanes of traffic. Usually there is a white unmarked late model Durango SUV parked on the west bound side headed up hill where 322 becomes two lanes for passing headed west towards Croppers. People tend to rocket on this part which is marked 35 mph to pass the massive traffic and this is where the unmarked Durango comes and ruins your day. He sits parked and tucked up beside the hill on the right hand side on I believe Ridgewood Road which is directly across the police station. He looks like a normal vehicle stopped at the stop sign waiting to enter traffic either direction and many people don't realize he's 5-0 until he's pulled behind them or one of his buddies is behind them. Many times he's the spotter car sending out his buddies after you or sometimes he's the spotter and the chaser as well. The Durango looks normal, it's white and has two small antennae on the roof with blacked out windows and lights in the grille, windows and lights. If you come racing past or go by you'd never know it was a cop car, only when you saw it up close and see the blue PA municipal plate which is pretty much the only visual giveaway. I think they tend to use this vehicle as the spotter more so to keep the element of surprise and keep it stealthy. They do have other unmarked cars as well, they rotate throughout the township you never know where they might be. Their cars are black and brownish and difficult to spot at night, so keep that in mind. They have some pretty normal spots like the dirt parking area for a run down barn and house at the corner of the RT 82 light on the right if going west. This is far nastier coming east as you crest a blind hill headed for the light most likely going much faster and boom there he is waiting for you. He sits tucked beside the barn in the grass more often than not and before you can say uh oh, he's coming for you. Another spot is going south on 82 off 322, you go down the hill after turning onto 82 which is very narrow and heavily wooded in this section, and on the right is a trailer park which catches your attention. You miss the small dirt driveway at the bottom of the hill after the main entrance to the park with VASCAR timing lines in front of it. This is where he sits and nails people left and right in his Explorer SUV. You have to ride the brakes hard to stay at 40 on this hill, the limit should be posted at 45 instead of 40 as that is far more agreeable. 40 is laughable in this case, sounds like it was purposely underposted for enforcement purposes. This used to be set much higher in the past, my mom remembers when it got dropped down and everyone thought it was fishy. He got my mom for supposedly going 52 in a 40 mph zone, this is very hard to believe since my mom drives the speed limit exactly and even a little over does not happen with her. 52 in a 40 seems to be a common speed as does 53 in a 35 ticket as well, seems very odd. EBPD sits in the church parking lot on the right going down hill towards Guthriesville Tire with timing lines directly in front of the parking lot exit. He can sit tucked up against the trees far back out of view and be invisible to both directions. There are also timing lines directly after the trucking company at the bottom of the hill between the company building and the parking lot of Gville Tire on the right in front of a gravel pull over area where cars are sometimes parked for sale. Another spot is where they sit before the new mega church on 82 S headed toward 322. Limit is 35 and road goes up and down with houses on the left and the church on the right. VASCAR lines are before the church and he can sit in the lot blacked out and see you long before you see him! ENRADD has been seen being used here and on 322 as well, though VASCAR also still is used a lot too. These guys are very hard on big trucks, delivery company fleets and commercial vehicles in general. A company I worked for the driver that ran the route that went through EBPD, he was stopped every night for months on end, everyone who ran that road were also stopped over and over again. It was targeted harassment and when asked to stop, the answer was pretty much no we aren't and when asked to let up some, they did not until much later on that year after months of trivial stops and wasted time. Avoid this area if possible, the expense, sheer stress. aggravation and frustration are not worth it. Good luck, you will need it here. Drive safely.

I agree with the above. I just moved to western chester county and am using 322 as a commute and have seen many people pulled over. It's pretty easy to see where the change from 45 ->35 occurs going west bound, but not so east bound. In fact, I still don't know exactly were it's at. I usually catch myself when I see the shopping center with burger king, but I know it's before that. Worst of all it's a long down hill so you have to ride your brakes or you'll drift over the speed limit easy. I can easily see a situation where someone is doing the speed limit of 45 and doesn't realize it's dropped to 35, then picking up a few mph down hill getting a ticket for 15 over. If they were to offer a 'break' by giving a lessor ticket with no points I can see people paying without even a second thought. In my mind the real issue is that it's not clearly marked that the speed is changing - thus in a fair court you could win very easily. From the post above it sounds like you'd have to appeal it to the county level and that would be more costly for most than simply paying. Nice little racket they have there.
