State Highway 38 near State Road

Big Bear City, CaliforniaJan 13, 20082 Comments

As you drive down from Onyx Summit and the Whispering Pines neighborhood, marked cars & SUVs use radar to catch speeders. Sister and mom have both been trapped within last year, and I see many others getting pulled over.

Comments:
My son got a ticket here also in 2009. Since then, I've notice the Highway Patrol cars waiting off the side of the road within the pine trees. Their radar guns are pointed out their window. It's a downhill grade coming into town this way (northbound), so it's easy to pick up speed on the straight stretch. Now that they have closed the front way (Hwy 330/18) to Big Bear for repairs, I'm sure the CHP will be especially active along this alternative route.

I happen to live right off 38 where everyone gets pulled over. There are days, especially Saturday and Sunday, when the officer on duty will pull speeders over at least every 30 minutes. It is really easy to get your speed going in this area as you are going slightly downhill and don't realize it. I got a ticket here 6 years ago and have watched it ever since. So be careful here and keep it to 55.
