State Highway 49 near State Highway 12

San Andreas, CaliforniaMar 03, 20082 Comments

CHP are parking in areas off Hwy. 49 within a half mile of stop sign where Hwy. 12 ends into Hwy. 49. They can be there any time of day but seem to be there more often at shift changes and rush hour. You can’t see them until it is too late to lower your speed!

Comments:
A hint: do not exceed the posted speed limit anywhere in Calaveras County. The CHP love to write tickets up here and have a strong presence.

This area is near but not in San Andreas. The state maximum speed limit is 55 unless posted higher. Generally you will not get a ticket for 60 mph. Technically this is not a "Speed Trap" since speed traps are illegal in California. My advice is stay within the speed limit anywhere between SR12 and Mokelumne Hill. The "hint" is a good one; including on SR 49 in San Andreas.
