This is just past the junction of NC-51 and the Carolina Place Parkway [leading away from Carolina Place Mall, headed to the South Carolina state line]. The speed limit changes three times without warning [45-35-45] and cops love to sit on that section where it goes to 35 and catch people. I’ll usually see them sitting in the parking lot of the Shell station next to the Baptist church and the apartment complex, although they’ll also sit on the shoulder of the road and in the driveway of the Skanska company on the left-hand side. I’ve seen them during the day occasionally, but they’re usually pretty good about it at night. They never have their lights on at night.
Since the road is a state highway, 45 seems to be a pretty good speed, but where it changes to 35 is ridiculous. There’s nothing nearby to warrant that change, and it seems like it’s just there to catch people off-guard.
