State Highway 54 near State Highway 70
This is The only highway intersection in Carrizozo and both roads are major substitutes for an interstate across New Mexico. Especially watch southbound highway 70 as its posted speed drops quickly coming into this small town. The speed along this highway is 55 mph, and being a major north-south truck route the NM Highway Patrol regularly bangs truckers.

US Highway 54 runs north-south in Carrizozo. US 380 runs east-west in Carrizozo. US Highway does not pass through Carrizozo but rather through Hondo, Ruidoso, Mescalero and Tularosa. There are frequent speedtraps in the cash-poor Town of Carrizozo.
They are not speed traps...speed traps are when speed limits change for no apparent reason...in these areas speed limits change due to populated areas or curvy roads...duh common sense
