State Highway 56 near Interstate 40
The city of Cromwell anexxed 4 miles of highway 56 north of city for the sole purpose of raising revenue via traffic fines at exit 212 on interstate 40. This includes speeding, rolling stops, and any other activity they can think of. They target out of towners, especially out of state visiters. They reduced the speed on the south end of town from 45 to 35mph without any study at all. There is a bridge over I-40 currently under construction, and the state highway patrol has stopped the city from patrolling this area until construction is finished.
