The entire Hwy. system of Southmayd is constantly monitored by city police, Grayson Co. sheriffs, and Texas State troopers.

Yep, Southmayd is a speed trap. Officer Black Camero quickly turned around and stopped me stating that I was going 70mph in a 55mph on 289. My speedometer was set at 62. My husband noted approximately 15 minutes later that Officer Camero had another one pulled over. Why is it that most of 289 is 65-70 mph except for this small piece of the pie? I understand the posting of 50 mph when entering towns such as Howe, Gunter, Celina and Prosper due to "driving through town". Nonetheless, there is nothing there in Southmayd except a sign stating 55mph that I missed. FYI~ Officer Camero pointed out to me that I could resume 70 mph approximately 100 yards ahead of me where a sign posts that limit. Thanks Officer Camero.

Same thing happened to me. I was driving at 65mph thinking that I was obeying the law when I was pulled over and the officer told me that the limit was 55. The speed zone is approx. 100 yards on either side of the Hwy 56 bridge. Later that week my husband and I traveled Hwy 289 to Hwy 380 and noticed that the signs of Gunter, Celina and Prosper are bigger signs and adequately displayed for drivers to see and adjust their speed. Shame on Southmayd! The speed limit in Southmayd on Hwy 289 is not there for safety issues but there for revenue generation.
